Tour of Tivoli

Known by the name of Tibur, Tivoli is a very ancient city (the foundation of this city is prior to Rome, in the year 1265 b.C.). After the Roman Empire, this important city decayed, specially during the Middle age. Such a decline was probably caused by the several barbaric invasions that the city suffered throughout the centuries. The villas were abandoned because no longer safe, and the population retired inside the city walls. During the 16th century, the Rocca Pia, a fortification built in the Middle Ages to protect the city from invasions, was again fortified. Among the monuments that you'll admire with our tour, Villa D'Este and Villa Adriana, both UNESCO world heritage sites, and Palazzo d'Este, the Church of San Silvestro, are just a few of the wonders of this little piece of history, not far away from the capital.
