Tour of Naples & Pompei

Visiting Naples is an enriching experience, full of surprises. In the smallest alleys, dark and crowded, you may find unexpectedly the most monumental and quiet gardens, churches and buildings of unbelievable beauty.
And if, of course, the Capodimonte and Borbonic Museum are a fundamental stop when visiting the city, they're only the beginning of a trip through many many wonders.
Let's take as an example, the castles. We have the Maschio Angioino, called Castel Nuovo, in opposition to Castel dell'Ovo (an architecture built on the sea shore, that seems to float peacefully on the Mediterranean waters) and to Castel Capuano, which are both older. The construction started on the 13th century by Carlo d'Angió, but was then completely rebuilt by Alfonso de Aragón in 1400. Today, we see its huge dark mass, gently accompanied by the triumphal arch, as one of the symbols of the city.
But the true Neapolitan icon is Saint Januarius (San Gennaro, for the locals): the spire to him dedicated, the most ancient in the city, is an ex-vow made by the Neapolitans to their saint patron to thank him for protecting them from the eruption of the Vesuvius volcano. Here we may see the bust, a masterpiece of gothic goldsmith's art, as well as two phials, with the blood of the saint in them. Twice a year, millions of believers presence the miracle of its liquefaction, entrusting the fortune of the city to this solemn act.
Another wonder in this city is the astonishing magnificence of the interior of the church of Saint Gregory of Armenia (San Gregorio Armeno). If compared with the monumental facade of the Gesú Nuovo, the latest seems almost sober. We see tracks of the passing of time in the structure of the monumental complex of Saint Lawrence (San Lorenzo Maggiore): the 18th century facade with the 14th century doors, gothic interior and Greek and Roman remains under the cloister. And if the church of Saint Francis of Paola (San Francesco di Paola) may be considered the typical example of the renewed classical style of the 18th century, in the Basilica of Santa Maria della Sanitá you'll be amazed by the invention of an altar raised overhead, that can be reach through two curved flights of steps on each side of it.
During our tour you'll have the possibility to visit Pompei, unique city, theatre of the tragic eruption of the Vesuvius volcano in 79 A.D. that buried the whole city full of life and well-being under a sea of lava and ashes. In 1997 was declared one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
